I've got a Trelawny needle gun, the manual for which suggests Shell Naturelle HF or Castrol Carelube HTG 22. I can't find the latter, and the former appears to be only available in quantities costing several hundred pounds. I like the idea of a biodegradable oil for the air tools I'm accumulating, so wondered if anyone had a suggestion of a type I can buy in a more reasonable quantity and at a cost for the hobbyist rather than business.

Thats what I buy in - 20ltrs does last a long while thou... But that is about £6quid a litre.
I got some auto oilers on airdriven machines - so it it not all air tool useage.

Airline oil appears to be ISO10 hydraulic oil, although I have seen it in ISO22 as well.
Call the technical department of some of the smaller oil companies and they will enlighten you.
A brief search finds lots of bio hydraulic oil in larger viscosity numbers, but I could not find ISO10 bio.
You could try Aztec Oil, Rye Oils, Smith & Allen, Westway, Morris, etc. They would probably tell you if it is something that is not made because there is no demand for it.

I was interested to discover it was 'a thing', and it seemed a Good Plan to try to limit pollution from oily mist where one can. There are several on Zoro listed as 'food safe' that come up in a search for 'biodegradable' but the data sheets are less clear. I imagine it would last for ever with a few drops in the tools at a time, so I am keen to try a small bottle of something nice if it's going to be around that Screwfix price!

any kind of oil vapor is not good for the lungs.
Not peanut oil, nor Luigi's extra virgin's.....

3 drops is ok if your getting misting the tools getting 2 much oil and will splatter all over
using the die grinder iget a slight bit of splatter out of the end just for the 1st minuteI don't personally have any oily mist, but since the oil goes in it's got to go out eventually, presumably microscopically. I am not intending to breathe or bathe in it, I'm just interested that biodegradable oil is available so would prefer to use it if it can be found in a reasonably small quantity to salve my inner ecologist's conscience.

Take care with that, I found it ate the rubber seal in the trigger assembly in my Metabo rattle gun.
