Bit of an odd question

I have some plain old boring household black gloss, but I want a "satin" finish on the piece I'm painting. Is there anything I can use as a "matting agent" to take the shine off it a bit?

I know I should just go buy a can of satin paint but I'm a tightwad!

if you have any undercoat the same colour, mix it 50-50 and it will dry semi gloss, an egg shell finish.

Im told talc will do it but Ive never tried it and I dont know how much. Also I would imagine its a pig to mix in. Id buy some matt

I think I shall just get a tin of satin paint or run with the gloss. Tight as I am, I don't think I'll go bankrupt for a tenners worth of paint. Just thought I'd see if anyone had any crafty tricks first.
