I have spent the last few days repairing wifey's Pop grill. It needed a couple of small weld repairs and then stripping and priming.
The strange thing is that this was only ever painted with red oxide primer and wifey used it in all weathers. It's then laid around for years waiting. When I stripped the primer it was a clean blasted surface with no rust at all apart from the bits mentioned.
Sanding the bars was a finger killer, I already have arthritis in my RH index and it didn't help. At all.
