Bits And Pieces From The Last Few Months

A couple of 'arty' things I've done in my spare time over the last couple of months.

I'm not at all artistically inclined but I find the flexibility (read, allowance to make mistakes) of this sort of stuff a nice break from the technical day job.


This was mostly to see how easy it was to work with coins, wasnt great fun but not as bad as expected.

A spider made from some scrap round bar i had lying around, The abdomen out of sheet was a bit of a pain:

Dad asked for a fire pit and a hanging sign for his summer house (which is almost exclusively used by his dogs!) so chucked these together out of some of the bits i could find on Brundles:

When buying the above from Brundles I saw they sold steel balls and bought them hoping i could think of something to make. I dont know what it is, the misses calls it the 'Cube Thing' so we will go with that:

It spins too:

This is what I'm currently working on, I like how its looking so far, i just haven't figured out how to mount it:

Hi, The 'cube thing' looks like the Atomium in Brussels. I think you do yourself down, you do have an eye, certainly better than mine.

Yes, I'm more impressed that he managed to convince Mrs Aff to model for the breast plate. Unless it's a self portrait.

I ended up hiding 2 small mounting tabs on the back of the last one, you can just about sneak a screwdriver through the gaps in the front to mount it. Looks quite nice on a wall and you dont see the mounting.
Problem now is I'm running out of space to put all this stuff! Ive given lots of it away to clear space for the next thing, but soon all of my family members are also going to run out of wall/counter/garden space!

Was the other halfs birthday so I thought I would try and earn some brownie points with a rose thingy.

Also a trip to a local reclamation yard turned up some nice bits. With some clean up and a few adaptor plates it made a nice lamp post which I have set in my Dads garden. Still need to decide how to light it up, its too far away from power to be worth doing it from the mains so I will try and find a discrete solar unit.

Nice stuff. You need to,think about putting this on an arty website, then wait for the commissions to come in (but don't hold your breath, I suspect it would be a slow process). Re the lampost, see if you can get 3 small ones on the "roof" - east, south and west, a shottky diode on each one before the battery.

Got a spare couple of hours in the garage the other night. This I shall call 'A Plant Thing'.
I had no plan, just rummaged through the scrap bin.
Still not sure if I like it or not. From a couple of angles I do, from others I do not.

Also I'm enjoying using the punched circles lately.

If anyone here produces them as scrap from their day job please get in touch, I'll happily buy them from you.
I have been using between 25-50mm diameter ones in 3mm steel but would consider anything.

Been getting hassled to make a desk for the other half. She's been working from home 'temporarily' on her dressing table.

Now that it looks like this situation will be more permanent I cracked on and made one. I quite like how it turned out.
