black smoke

Hi Everyone...

Question....there is alot of black smoke coming from my acetyne hose when lighting it...does something require cleaning....I have cleaned my torch heads and it's still there....

sounds like u have had a burnback in hose check the one way checkvalves on your torch i presume the soot is before u light it?? not after??unless u mean black smoke from the tip of gun when lit without applying the oxygen which is normal

acetylene always gives off black smoke when you light it but disappears when you introduce the oxygen its all about fuel to air ratio same with a car to much petrol and you get black smoke

The black smoke is carbon that is produced in black soot form. You should be opening up acet gas flow rate far enough to view small amount of carbon smoke, too low acet flow rate creates what we call "paratroopers" this you don't want!

I forgot to add, flare off carbon, then introduce oxy........

One other point, you should know this stuff mate, not being cheeky, are you familiar using O&A?
