was wondering if any of the cheap blast cabinets are an good
i have been looking at 3 different ones and wanted peoples opinions on them

I'd make my own to be honest. Those siphon blast guns aren't up to much.

What do you intend to clean?

just smallish bits and bobs and i have in idea involving horseshoes seems like the quickest way to clean the light rust off

If it's only ligt rust an acid dip will shift it quicker and easier than blasting. Trouble is it will also rust again very quickly unless you do something to neutralise the acid and protect the metal.
Standard brick acids, phosphoric and hydrochloric make good steel cleaners. They will also strip zinc coating very quickly.
Electrolytic rust removal is also another option.
Both the above are cheap easy and convenient unless you have an aversion to chemicals,have kids or pets around the place.
In my opinion the only blast cabinets worth bothering with are pressure fed ones. Even after having a professional blast cabinet I got fed up of blockages and temperamental grit feed.
Cheapest way is to get a cheap Ebay pressure pot and build your own cabinet from an old oil drum, washing machine, microwave or whatever.

Blasting has the advantage of leaving a rough surface for paint to attach.

Definitely go for a pressure pot over a siphon gun though.

Have you tried a wire brush in an angle grinder on the rusty horseshoes – wouldn’t pick any rust out of the nail holes though??

A good soak in vinegar might do the trick too.

How about using the Electrolysis method of rust removal using soda crystals, a bucket, some water and a battery charger??

Used it many times and works well for me!

I have a small blasting cabinet I got off ebay, it's ok if you don't mind continually unblocking it!! if they are only small parts you're doing, should be ok

yea i tried wire wheels on both my angle grinder and my die grinder they work but only to an extent. i borrowed my mates blast cabinet to have a go, its quieter quicker and less messy and it left a good finish for paint to stick to

all 3 cabinets are the same all small and crap with suction guns. a bigger cabinets better and u can use either the suction gun or a pressure fed pot in them the small clarke ones are ok for light sandblasting or beadblasting with modifications on small parts .

Like I said - build one. Get down to Machine Mart and have a look at one. Have a search one here, a few people have made their own, they're not difficult to make, there are plans available on Anglo-Scott's website.
