Blasting Cabinet Build

I've been in the garage a fair bit lately and this is one of the things I've been working on. I thought this might interest a few of you guys that like to build things.

Started out with an old office cabinet that I saved from the skip at work

My trusty assistant Phil drilled out the spot welds so we could remove the back:

Another little office freebie, some old desk legs with a few extra holes drilled in them

Bolted onto the side of the cabinet

Starting to look like a very low rent Star Wars ATAT or something :lol:

Next up was to build a 'hopper' to collect the blast media and anything that's been blasted off. This involved some head scratching until Phil and I realised we'd forgotten all of our school maths. So we found Google 'Sketch up' and 3d modelled it to get the dimensions. Lots of measuring and cutting later got us to here

Then I mocked it up to check fit

All looking good, so I fired up my trusty Portamig hot metal gluing machine and tacked it together

And a bit more

Then the welding started in earnest

An hour or so later it was pretty much stuck together and we also made a section to fill the gap at the bottom.

It needs a lid obviously, so the frame was made from some angle iron I'd picked up from the steel stockholder.

And some hinges welded on

That's where its got to so far. The lid will be made from the remains of the cabinet that was removed earlier, then some holes for big rubber gloves, a window and an interior light should see the project pretty much finished

Hoping to bring the whole thing in for under £50

Yeah I've been thinking about an extraction system. I have a large extractor vacuum available, so I think I'll try and get a filter of some sort on the go and use that.

Any suggestions are welcome

Sadly the cabinet has been put on the back burner a bit as I've been busy sorting cars and my new yank truck out. I really must get it completed and start making it earn it's keep!

Will update as soon as there is some progress.
