blasting pots?

Hello, Anyway iv'e found a 10 gallon blasting pot on ebay.co.uk, this is the pic

I thought it looked like these ones

Anyway i would like to know where i could maybe get parts for it, nozzles i was thinking spark plug ends or 3mm tungsten carbide nozzles.

He said the pot has been used for blasting a house (the pot used to be a bright orange)

Also what media should i use, (I will be blasting, vw bodyshell,floorpan,engine components,gearbox components, wheels)

i was thinking, soda,aluminium oxide,glass beads,metal shot or is there a cheaper alternative, ive found a place in blackpool that does 25kg for £17 of soda.

Forget messing about with the ceramic nozzles or homemade and get a tungsten carbide one from Pete Booth. It'll last ages and ages you can keep blasting rather than keep changing nozzles.

Somewhere in the mists of time I did a write-up of how to fit those nozzles to the Ebay-type pots, it'll be in the compressed air section somewhere!

Use J-Blast Supafine.

tbh someone is selling glass beads and steel shot on ebay 25kg bags for under £11 and only in cheshire

There is a place in blackpool as well that sell this type of soda

Glass beads are for finishing, not shifting paint. AFAIK steel shot is for shot-peening, chilled iron is for stripping paint & rust &c.

Both steel shot and chilled iron are very dense so 25 Kg doesn't represent much volume, and chilled iron at least rusts like the dickens.

What do you mean by valve upgrades? The bottom valve and nozzle valve (if fitted) both wear so cheap and cheerful is the order of the day.

I saw on some one elses project for a blast pot where they put shutoff valves on.

soda blasting (engine parts,and small things)
aluminium oxide(alloy wheels)
steel shot (i was going to use for vw body shell and floor pan and other steel parts etc)
Glass beads (on the engine parts for finishing as you said)

the pot will be adequate for cleaning parts . was it a dolls house he used it for blasting

There's a valve on the bottom which you adjust to set the amount of grit going into the airstream, one down the side which passes air to the mixer, this should be fully open. A third valve controls the air supply, again fully open and possibly a valve on the end of the hose where the nozzle fits, once more fully open.

Bog standard lever operated ball valves, 3/8 BSP threads.
