Blowing fuse

I’ve got an old cebora special car mig
I’ve only ever used it on setting 1& 2
For light car work. Now I want to go
Up on the power to do welding on a truck as soon as I turn it up to setting 3 or more it blows the 13 amp fuse in the plug.
What’s the best way around not blowing the fuse

What power is the welder? anything above 150amp size is better on a dedicated blue 16amp plug and socket. Above 180amp is better on a 32amp plug and socket.

It should specify the input current required on the data plate, would help us with giving advice on fusing etc.

is it blowing the fuse as you weld or just when you select the higher range?

Just blowing when I weld at a higher range 160 amp mig welder

Many thanks for the reply’s I’m going to sort it tomorrow think I will run an extension lead with blue plugs straight from the fuse board

Should be on a 16a socket and a type c is best
, but you can normally get away with pulling alot more than 13a from a 13A plug for a short time such as a 15sec weld mabey (dosent mean you should this is how fires start). I can use mine at about 160amps from a 13a plug no probs if i have to, despite its plate saying 17amps at this level.
Are you using it on a long flex or extension lead?This wont help!

No extension lead plugs straight in a wall socket and whenever I turned up to range 3 it blows the fuse as soon as I touch wire to metal

its rated at 16.5 amp, a ring main can carry way more than that, even a single run of 2.5 would cope, the 13amp plug and socket is not going to cope with it, the fuse is going to blow and the contacts in the socket will over heat other than that it should be fine.
