Blowing fuses and stuff!

I do my work out of my fathers premises and until I got a decent mig/plasma/tig/compressor we never had an issue.

My brothers a sparky and said the feed can run our compressor on the 16a spur, but that's about it.

Running a thicker cable isn't an option , so we're looking at an external socket on the house, and me investing in a decent extension lead.

What amperage should the socket be? He thinksi can have up to 32 without issue but the cablings a killer.

I run :-
Oxford 180 that blows the current trip on 3/4 setting

Eastwood versa cut 40 that eats 13a fuses around the 27a setting

And a 200a rtech tig thats never gone above 120 yet.

I figured a 16a supply and 240v 16a lead will suffice?

16 amp supply should do it, could go up to 32 if you want to be safe.

if it is being mounted outside then it must be suitably protected from the elements and rcd protected

Yes, it'll be on an rcd or rcbo or whatever he called it.

With a proper down facing ip rated socket.

I've been looking at extension leads. There's many selling 32a 240v 2.5mm leads. But others selling 4mm.

I would only be using the single device on the end, or a grinder but never at the same times. Is 2.5mm going to be enough?

depends on the length and how hard it is used... personally I would go with 4mm

for 32amp i would always go 4mm. Pretty sure 2.5mm is only rated to something like 27amps but would have to check that
