Blu-cord Oerlikon rods

Anyone tried the 6013 Blu-cord Oerlikon rods?

Seem quite a bit cheaper than the Fincord M's, which are getting a bit expensive for DIY use now.

I'd guess Oerlikon are doing the same as other big names and offering one of their mainstream rods as an economy version but without the approvals and guarantees, and they're having to do this to keep their name in the game and deal with cheap imports.

The example test certificate is for Fincord M which may or may not mean something.

A problem with buying rods on the WWW is the cost of shipping them, probably about £6.

There is a rod on the market that is coloured blue. Its probably the best 6013 on the market, especially for low OCV sets.

This isnt it but they are probably hoping some people think it is.

How do I know, because we sell it and theres no way could a shop sell it for that price.

I would suspect that the Oerlikon rods are no better than those sold by Weldequip for about the same price.

As with everything else............"you get what you pay for"

Thanks for the replies, chaps. About what I suspected.

I noticed that same 'example test certificate' came up on the £10 bargain box rods on that site too, so perhaps they flash it up on whatever is for sale.

I'll leave this up a bit longer, to see if anyone's tried 'em, nonetheless.

Just wondering if they'd strike up as easy as the Fincord M's, as I've only got a buzzbox for occasional jobs, and supposedly OCV of only 47 up to 2.5's, moving up to 50v for 3.2. But Fincords have always struck easy on that, even 1.6 rods.

halfway down the page. They do a lot of Oerlikon stuff. Aren't they all owned by Air Liquide?

The good £18-20 a box rods I've used are Murex White Box and Phoenix 6013 in a pink box and I can get the Murex locally. I don't think I've tried them with a buzz box.

I might give those Oerlikon blucord rods a try, but only of I could get them locally. I wouldn't mess about mail ordering them.

Sorry about the bump, but I'd give my heads up on Saf-Fro Blucord electrodes, they are an Air Liquide brand, by the way. I find them easier to work with than some Murex Zodian electrodes I used to have (although they were very good too) and the slag comes off very easily.

I'll enquire locally first, don't want to spend the postage if I don't have to, but looks like they will be worth a try at that price.

Looks like nobody has tried the Oerlikon blucords I posted about, so I will give them a miss for now.

in my opinion saf-fro is by far the most incosistent electrode i've used,luckili the box is almost finished.1 good,2 bad 3 good,2 worst! tryed from 65-90 amps and in every arc force seting both in the esab & weco.maybe they work ac better

If so,they're a lovely rod to put down. Especially the standard s/s's and 29/9's.

I thought Metrode only made specialised stuff. Electrodes for weathering steel and exotic alloys, not 6013s.

Not a brand where you go to your local supplier or web supplier even, and they have them on the shelf.

Hmmm. Me thinks your right. I knew they were big into the specials alright and the only M/S they do seems to be a 6018.

Either way, their rods are nice. If anyone finds them around, snap them up.

It used to be sold by Messer as SuperBlue not sure now who sell it or if its still made. I think it came from INE in Italy

My local welding shop sells them they are a good rod. Got a couple've boxes in the van.
