Blueprint Advice Needed

Hi Guys, ive not been welding long, just practicing laying beads and a few basic joints.

My first project looks like this:

Im looking for advice on the best way to weld it together. Which joints should i do first.

It may be just me but your drawing is quite confusing. A clearer drawing or a description of the construction might get some replies.

From what I can see you would need to modify your design where the thumb screws are. The 3mm wall thickness of the box section will only give you 2.4 threads when you tap it M8. You would need to either weld on a nut or even better a piece of 10mm plate and tap that.

As for welding it - clamp it up, put in plenty of good tacks and weld it using a either a 2.4 or 3.2 good quality rod. You will find it easier to tack if you bump your amps up a bit. Plan your welding order to leave you the easiest access for welding. Try to avoid having to make welds at less than ideal angles. Clamp it up & use a bare rod in your hand to go along each weld to see what would be the best order to use. You might find you need a full length rod to reach some welds and a shorter rod to get into some corners.

Thanks for the info. If you google abba front lift arm you can see lots of info and pics etc. It looks like this:

The thumb screws are just to hold the bars in place. The drawing is one somebody else drew who made the abba stand and the front lift arm.
I'm just not sure what is the best way to weld it together, as in what order to do the welds.

tat looks to be a fairly simple part to make...i would drill te holes first, then clamp the bottom bit of box down, weld the top section that is perpendicular first, then weld the angled bit on second...blast of paint and job done

just lay it out in such a way that you can get at all the welds properly.

a lot of jobs are easier if you piece them together rather than tack it all up then find you cant reach a certain joint...

that job doesnt look overly complicated though

I've learned from bitter experience that tapped holes in 3mm wall box never stick any use before the thread pulls. It's a simple job to drill a clearance hole in the box section and weld a nut over it.

What size is the tube that slides inside what you drew? 50x50x3mm wall gives you 44mm inside. You may also have to remove the weld seam from inside the assembly. I agree about the need to weld a nut on for the thumb screw.

The inner tubing will be 40x40x3mm so should fit in good might be a little loose, i think i will just drill a hole and then tack nuts on. Saves me having to tap holes. Thanks

best way to do it is drill a clearance hole for the size bolt...so if using M6 bolts/nuts drill a 6.5mm hole, then insert a counter sunk bolt from inside, wind the nut on finger tight and weld it on. the counter sunk bolt will ensure its central and the over sized hole will prevent the bolt from binding should it putt slightly during welding

The drawing is clear but it's missing lots of essential info.
No dimension for where the holes are placed. No reference points for where any thing should sit apart from the 9 degree angle. No thread length specified
I can see what your trying to make and I don't suppose it matters so much but on a more critical item details are important.

i always find a dimensioned drawing easier to read than a plain drawing like above...maybe because its easier to visualise if you know how big it is to be

I've been handed so many technical and welding drawings over the years for various reasons after a while your not looking at lines and numbers you see the object.
I've also glanced at a few leccy drawings. You can have them back" I say. All I can see is lines and numbers.

Joints what joints? I see no joints or dimensions

I have never seen this part in the flesh so don't even know what is fixed or where. I think you will need to submit more information on this
