I've read here some very nice threads the last 4 months, so decided to join.
Building a river/canal boat at own design in aluminium 4 by 12,7 m
plates 8 - 5 mm, 5083
profiles T mostly from 40x40x4 - 80x80x7 6060 and 6082
Welder Castolin / Fronius 270 Amps, pulsed, wire 1,2 mm, 5083, Argon

I would be interested in hints and experiences in welding the 5083 alloy.

Hi Klaus. Before I built my Steel wide beam barge (now for sale) I lived on an Aluminium 22m boat for 11 years. Always loved the advantages of Ally. Secretly I'd love an old Aluminium Burger Flushdeck (like the one in the pic below).

Good god. I thought my boat was difficult! What a lot of components! And quite a complicated design, but that's the wonder of CAD.
