BOC Acetylene outlet horizontal not vertical :(

I had BOC deliver refilled oxygen and acetylene cylinders the other day - came to refit the gauges today only to find the new acetylene has a horizontal outlet meaning that my gauges, instead of being 'upright' now have to stick out from the trolley at what I consider a dangerous 90 degrees, and thus exposed to knocks, angle.

OK it's years since I had them refilled, so I can understand that they may have changed a bit over the years, but this seems plain daft.

air products bottles outlets are to the side. ive had mine that way for over 40years with no probs . dont worry about it. which ever way u shouldnt put them anywhere they could get damaged

You need a pair of these then.
We used to use AP bottles, for years, regs on their side, never any problems, never damaged one.

It potential damage wheeling them about that concerns me. On the trolley they have to partly 'overhang' the side, as if I rotate the cylinder to make the gauges point forwards the outlet hose and flashback foul the oxygen cylinder

I would think most welding suppliers can get them, might have to order them for you; i don't remember seeing many about - most fab shops just stick the gauges on their sides.

the oxy acet burners in work all have side entry bottles and just use regs as you have described, but they welded up a cage to hold the gas as opposed to a trolley. Still got wheels and is perfectly manouverable though

I think I'd fabricate some kind of cage round them.

That was my first port of call, but they are pricey there as well

I agree - most annoying this change to horizontal outlet after what must be 50yrs and more of the vertical one. I remember the vertical one at secondary school and I am now retired.
