BOC Oxygen cylinder supplied empty

Is this possible or am I just an unlucky person?

Twice now I have exchanged my cylinders (its very expensive) and when I went to light up my gear found the new cylinder to be totally empty.

It still had its plastic cap on so hadn't been used.

I can't prove this has happened so looks like I just need to shell out for another. How can I ensure this one has something it it?

There has be posts about this before, I'm sure they took it back and had it exchanged FOC.

DON'T pay for this out of your own pocket. Take it back and tell them, it does happen it shouldn't be new to them.
I'd suggest sooner rather than later, but you should have no problems.

You seem to be unlucky, if you wish you could take your regulator down to try replacement bottles and check they are at full pressure before you leave.

During my time at College, we had cylinders of gas delivered by BOC and I always tested them while the driver was on site, it's easily done to give you an empty cylinder, as Bill Edwards says do'nt pay get them to exchange it,

Take it back, they always seem pretty fair to me and think they will give you the benefit of the doubt.

Hi guys. Thanks for the input.

Well. I went down with my empty today. I wasn't going to try for a refund as I got the cylinder in May and didn't try to use it till December but I did take my key with me so I could check before I left.

I explained this to the guy and he said 'bring the new one in. I've got a gauge to check it with'. I got the new one from the yard operative and it immediately felt much heavier than the old one. Oxygen must be heavy

Took it back to the desk. Guy checked it and it was obviously full. I also picked up some polyurethene floor paint they had on the shelf back in May which I thought was about £30 (5L) and one of those cup lighter things.

Was chatting away to the guy about cars n stuff (he welds at home) and he tells me total is £34.

My receipt from May was £32 so I reminded him I'd bought the paint. He explained he knocked a little off because of the empty cylinder issue.

I then reminded him I'd also got the lighter thing and he said 'call it £35' as that's what I had out the wallet.

Anyway I walked away thinking 'cool. got my paint a proper lighter and a full cylinder for same price as the previous empty one (nearly)'

Had a better look at my receipts when I got home and it shows that the oxygen size E is only about £15 but the fixed charge is about £18.

The guy didn't include the fixed charge this time and I guess the paint isn't as dear as I thought it was. And the lighter must be more than a quid usually.

So. All in all a good outcome.
