Good evening Ladies and Gents, I have been on this site for 12 months and never got round to introducing my self
I served my time at Rolls-Royce as a TIG welder 25 years ago attaining the A.I.D, standard ( Aero space qualification), left there and started my own buisness as a mechanical engineer and mobile welder, been around welding ever since in one form or another, even doing 3 years as a welding tutor at a college. Last big job I worked on was replacing a railway bridge in steel ( blown up by the resistance in ww2 and rebuilt with copius amounts of angle iron) these where 350 tonne sections welded up on the ground lifted into place, then welded together at 165 feet!!.
Got fed up of the UK 6 years ago and moved to France with my wife and springer spaniel and love it!!!!!

Bonsoir wobblemonster Welcome to the forum. We're all nice on here so do get stuck in.

I'm learning French at the moment with a view to moving over at some point. My mother has retired over in dept 71, and when she needs looking after it would seem more sensible to do it where the weather is nicer rather than here. Though I prefer the more southern areas as my old Renaults would last longer in the sunshine. Where are you exactly? And did you find work over there?

Malcolm- Hi, we are in dept 46 (Lot) I found work by going to the local bar and getting to know the locals, work was a bit slow in comming but there seems to be enough about at the moment, I hope you like doing paperwork and filling out forms if your thinking of working over here

So, does your AID qualification mean your'e the guy to talk to about welding crazy aircraft alloys? Not that I have any to weld... just interested.
