Bosch battery drill just broke

So much for German engineering!
Drill is about 1 yr old - wonder what the guarantee is?
In fairness it has been brilliant - not had much use at all though.
I was repairing a fence today after the high winds. The drill is doing something weird. The chuck lets go when unscrewing so you have to stop and re tighten. Also the clutch seems to be struggling as well. And now there is a 1/4 turn before you can undo the chuck. You twist it and it moves about a 1/4 turn before engaging. Feels knackered in other words.
Is it worth stripping it down or just try to take it back? Bought it in a B+Q sale.

I just googled makita - could have had one for the same price and apparently some of them are made in Britain - if only I had known that!

1 year if you didn't register it with Bosch. 3 years if you registered. Nowt to suggest a Makita would have lasted any longer. You sure it's not just the chuck which is knacked?

It could just be the chuck.
And no I didn't register it but I can always invoke the 6 year rule I suppose! I did for our 2 yr old microwave and they caved in. If the drill had been in use daily fair enough but probably only used it about once a fortnight!

I'd try sending Bosch an e-mail first off, along with that photo and a photo of the receipt, and see what they say, if it's over a year old. It's plain to see it hasn't been abused.

It has been a really good powerful drill - and yes I tend to look after my stuff. It helps that I am just an amateur and don't use my tools daily - monthly would be more accurate lol.

Ive had the same (possibly slightly different model but looks almost identical) drill for a couple of years, can’t fault it really and I think @Richard. has the same and put it through some serious abuse.

I’ve not heard of any Makita stuff being uk made and I doubt very much you’d get anything like that for the price you paid for this (I paid £100 for mine and I struggled to find much else at the same price with the same power and from a branded manufacturer - which was important to me as I wanted to add other bare tools later)

Call the UK support number. I did when I wondered if I had a battery issue and spoke to someone who sounded like they had first hand knowledge of working on the tools.

It turned out to be slightly dirty contacts from under-use, but they were willing to help.

Try opening the chuck all the way up and closing it up again a few times.
Mine do this now and again and that seems to sort them out

I had one and it was great. I also wrecked the chuck on mine but it was used well above and beyond it’s designed capabilities. Unfortunately investigations showed the chuck is actually a complete chuck and gear box replacement on those costing about as much as a new body so it isn’t worth the repair as I was just gonna slap a new chuck on mine but it’s not that straight forward.
You must of just got a bad en as I could not rate that little semi industrial drill highly enough. Get it sent back see what they say. Now I like the Bosch gear I’d chose it personally over makita any day of the week but I’ve heard horror stories of there customer back up not been as good as there products so you might struggle there. Luckily I’ve never had to go that far with it but it’s just what I’ve heard when others have had issues. Issues are rare though. The gear is as robust as it comes as far as my experience goes. I’m a Milwaukee fuel m18 man now and that’s been faultless so far.

I've got a Bosch 18V, registered it for 3 years and gearbox let go with 1 week of the warranty to go! Bosch fixed it no problems. I still have it 4 years later going strong. Contact them, they were fine with me.

i got that one and works well only had it3 months aprox and mine not in day use but looks worse then yours
