Bought a Silverline orbital air sander - what a pile of poo

I know. Silverline...
But I didn't realise just how rubbish a tool could actually be until I used this for the first time (link to advert);




Even light pressure on the workpiece causes it to stall. I opened the taps up full, to 110PSI and it only made it spin faster without load and then still stalled when I touched the work.
Tried using the edge with a light touch but that just delayed the inevitable for a few seconds.

Lesson learned - no more Silverline (a lesson that i know most people on here got a long time ago).

Borrowed a mate's Ryobi electric sander and zapping through the job now...

To run sanders and the likes, you need a serious amount of air. I learned this quickly after buying my first compressor

does your airline have a regulator inline ? if so they often restict the flow quite a lot , if it has try it without it

as said it may have the pressure but not the volume and that makes a hell of a diffrence

Yep, lots to know and learn about compressors. Compressed air isn't simple

I may give it another shot, minus the reg. But, tbh, the wee Ryobi electric job does a really good job so i'll probably stick with that!

they are cheaper to run aswell

I had one of those but the SIP version and it wasn't much better. My 3hp belt drive compressor would struggle to keep up with it.
In the end I bought an electric DA sander, much nicer and a lot more quiet.

i got the same workzone one the first one i had was like yours @skotl so i took it back and exhanged it the 2nd one was better

I bought an electric SIP one a few years ago, used it a few times, and then put it away. I used it again last summer, and was absolutely staggered at the vibration - it was just awful!

I suppose the pad might have gone a bit lopsided (I didn't check it!), but I had to wear welding gloves just to hang onto it! Hope I don't need it again for a very long while! Hateful bloody thing!
