Bought another shed - how to fix it to a brick wall?

Outhouse inventory:

1. Single garage = workshop
2. Tiger shed = bbq, bike and paint store... and all the garden crap... read on...
3. Wife's summer house
4. Son's ganghut aka 6x3 shed aka going to the tip

...and... #5 - an 8x4 Tiger lean-to that is going to take all the garden crap out of #2

The back side will be up against the house wall so my question is how to mount / seal it

At first gland I figured I would chop the rear roof down so that it was sealed up against the wall but I don't know whether that will actually be harder to seal. The house wall is brick so there's not going to be a flat surface to mount it up against.

Should I put a gutter in at the back and just let it drain into the grass (legalities notwithstanding)?

Basically, I'd like to protect the rear face as much as possible as, whether it's 3mm or 30cm away from the wall, it's going to be impossible to protect / preserve the wood.

Just looking at the pic - I wonder if I can invert the sides and have the rain / roof flow from back to front? That seems a better design than flowing the rainfall into the house wall...

Put a gutter on it and pipe the water well away from the wooden base , sit the shed base on some level slabbing on that is about three inches above the mean ground level too as it deters rats & mice making a nest under the floor and allows air flow under the shed floor

I've ordered some plastic bedding and 1 ton of gravel so will hopefully get it up a decent amount from the grass. Any thoughts on whether it's ok to have the gutter at the back (where the wall is) or invert it and put the gutter at the front?

Actually - I might be changing my mind. If I leave it angled toward the back, have it out an inch or so from the wall, and have guttering in place (as you suggest) then it likely doesn't need sealed to the wall

you will have to cut above the front door as those panels wont be able to be spun from front to rare

its best to fit a wood across the back and then new rafters to the front of the shed then just fill in

for sealing to the house just use a brick joint cut into it with a grinder and either steel it or alcan flash lead is too dear to buy

otherwise to adapt that shed your going to have to lop the roof off spin around and then refasten the spars to each other again

ive done it often enough with pinelap fencing when they need to be shortened from there 6ft6" which is not allowed for front or rear fences

^^^^^ This. There is no way I would have water running TO the house, always away from the house. It is one of life's rules.

The idea of reversing or swapping the sides so the fall is away from the wall is a good one though you will have to adjust the height of the walls front and rear, not so hard to do.

i like the idea of swaping the slople but its a bit unpractical as its that way so you have more head room when going in the shed

the easy way is just putting in guttering and take it way from the shed or stand the shed on a few high dencity brease blocks to allow air flow

my old shed at my last house was put on brease blocks direct half sunk in the mud and level with guttering both sides with the down pipe pointing away from the shed its was still like new 12 years later only thing i used to do was fence paint every year thats it

Turn the shed 90 degrees, have a side up against the wall and a gutter on the back with a pipe leading into a barrel. Flog the harvested water south of the border

Don’t fix to wall with roof like that .. you will have serious damp issues.

Space off and fit a proper gutter

I think unless you're a Hobbit that if you manage to reverse the front and back walls you'll be forever scalping yourself on the door frame!
I'd just space it off the wall a bit (to stop rain splashing up the wall) and fit the guttering to take the water into a butt.

With regards to how to mount it, I used a course of brick, on top of that I laid a frame I made up from 4x2 and then the shed went on top of that, the floor of the shed is about 6 inches above ground and gets plenty of air circulating under it., the larger of the green sheds is a Tiger shed and has been up 6 years, the smaller mounted the same way is 10 years old.
Absolutely zero damp issues with either, they’re bone dry inside.

Had a look at your link skotl, I see the price of sheds has increased dramatically!

Might be worth asking if they could photo the inside of the front panel - the front and rear of my Tiger shed are identical, just with an extra panel fixed on top of the main panel to give the extra height for the roof.

So you could potential remove it from the door panel, and fasten it to the top of the rear panel.

You never know, they might even be able to supply it reversed - got to be worth asking?

sit it on some slabs and keep it just far enough of the wall for painting . fit the gutter and a downpipe with a shoe on the bottom and make a soakaway with gravel job done

Erection time!

Despite the fact that the original question on this thread was "how do I fix it to a brick wall" I've now realised that what I've bought is too big to fit here - it would block the window to the left of the photo, which would make the wife livid

So we hunted around the ancestral grounds and then concluded that in front of the other Tiger Shed would be perfect; out of sight, out of mind and all of that. Only downside was the fence and gate that was in front of it - quick bit of reciprocating saw later and it wasn't any more!


Used the same plastic foundation tiles that I've used for three other sheds, plus half a ton of gravel - works great and highly recommended.

The Evolution wacker was really useful, too, compacting everything down without damaging the tiles.


Up it goes:

Three helpers - two legged son, four legged son and brother (who has two legs, for the record)

Weathertight - that'll do for the day...

The gate on the left and its mating fence need to be brought forward tomorrow.
