Bowden pipe gas extension??

BOWDEN TUBE? Am I right in calling it this?PTFE? Have a co2 bottle and regulator. The OD of this is 4mm. If I buy a few metres of 4mm & a coupler is it ok to connect & make a long length so that big pub co2 bottle can stay in corner & welder be relatively portable? All this tube seems to be sold for 3d printing - suitable? Guessing if the OD is 4mm for the connectors the internal dia less critical? Thanks.

Looks like 4mm compressed air tubing, usually made from nylon, polyurethane, or PVC.

Why bother with the coupler? It is another two joints that could leak. Just buy extra tube and go straight into the fitting on the bottle. At the least, price up the two alternatives.

Thanks for your reply. Can go straight into the regulator output yes - the coupler would be needed to connect to the tube coming from the welder itself - wasn't thinking of 'hardwiring' new tube into the welder - that's getting a bit complicated I think?

Your adaptor tube will allow connecting to a proper regulator – the 4mm tube pushing into the fitting on your welder. Problem with using a long enough length to reach around the place is it’s not exactly bullet-proof. It will snag, kink and fairly easily be damaged by anything remotely sharp or hot. A decent length of it will cause a pressure drop too – whether you notice or it’s important as you would simply increase the supply pressure to compensate.

I’ve be replacing the more robust larger ID rubber hose with a longer length, keeping the 4mm section as short as possible . . . or changing the fitting on the welder to accept a “proper” supply hose, without the 4mm section.

Something like this will allow 4mm tubing to be connected directly to the regulator's outlet. It will need a 15mm OD flat rubber sealing washer.
