Box section end caps

I want to build a computer desk out of some box section and wood that I have lying around. I need some plastic end caps, both threaded and unthreaded, and some of the ones with transverse threads to take castors.

Trouble is, I only need a few of each (the maximum quantity being 6), and most of the suppliers that I've googled seem to deal in the thousands.

Where can I buy end caps in small quantities?

Locally, an agricultural supply place stocks the blank end caps for square and round section tubes.
Along with nuts, bolts, welding rods, PPE, tractor spares, hydraulic hoses.........
I would never have thought of seeking them there - just happened to notice them when I when I last went to get some nuts and bolts.

I've seen the blank ones, but I haven't seen any of the threaded ones. I'll have to contact one of the sellers, I suppose.

if not i presume the threaded ones are for legs what about welding a plate to the end and paining?

have you looked at Skiffy.com ?

As for casters or adjusters, etc, I generally weld a nut (or caster-attachment) onto a suitable washer, the nut goes inside the box and then I weld the washer onto the bottom of the leg. 2 - 3 tacks inside and another couple outside, jobs done.

The end-on ones are for the cross pieces, and could probably be replaced with welded on nuts. The transverse ones are for the castors, fitting into horizontal legs. Those would be harder to replace with nuts.

Ring 'em up, ask for some samples. Different sizes and so on....

Usually they'll send them to you.

Occasionally you'll get a comedian who'll send you three...

I buy my tube fittings from Alexanders, Sometimes for a small quantity they'll send you samples, RS, also do a few castor fittings.

Well, I've emailed Alexanders (not being brave enough to phone...), mentioning that they were recommended on the forum. I listed the parts I need, and asked if they had a customer that could help. I've also been in touch with a seller on eBay, who's promised to look into prices for me.

I'll see how it goes. The worst they can do is tell me to bog off...

Theres some more RS ones here in small quantities, I have plenty of 40 x 40 black plugs, probably a bit big for a desk though,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I've just ordered some inserts online from http://www.bpfittings.co.uk . If the item you want is ex-stock, there appears to be no minimum order quantity.

I just wanted plain round inserts in various sizes but they do threaded fittings too. However, that's half a year too late for the original poster but perhaps useful for people like me who remembered this thread when I realised I needed a source for inserts.

Yes, but the original poster was talking about buying in small quantities for a one-off project. If the alternative is to buy 1,994 inserts that you don't need, then they'll add up to a substantial cost no matter how cheap they are per insert.

try moss plastics from france, they have the best range i know of, email them and find out who there agent is near you.
