Its eaten my grease gun. Gun was getting a but gungy so gave it a squirt of comma`s finest and a wipe with a rag. Case turned to mush and glued the switch to the case. Took a fair while with a stanley blade to get the switch moving enough to use it, will need to get a new motor case and switch . Not all plastics can cope with brake cleaner. Just saying

But I have done the same on an auto greaser on a Stand by jenny set.

Brake cleaners are a mixed batch.
We now use alcohol based cleaners, for every thing, including the kitchen detector cleaning.
Oh yes on the can it says:

"May contain nuts."


That's a hole new can of fish.

Had a similar mishap a few weeks ago.

Cleaning silicone up with upvc cleaner and spilt it on the bath panel. ended up with a similar effect.

thankfully 180 grit then progressively finer with wet and dry then scotchpads fixed it. a very light wipe over with upvc cleaner put the shine back on. phew.

Get some citrus degreaser or baby wipes for jobs like cleaning tool handles, much safer than brake cleaner.

Its not affected the sprayer though, the triple qx does the same so I can only assume the draper plastic is made from chewing gum .

The same with 'electrical contact cleaner'. Don't spray it in until you have checked it doesn't melt the item.

But then its also scary what baby wipes can and do remove so shudder to think what it must do to an infants' bum...

If you leave it the rubber may recover, I had a pump spray burst after sitting in the sun in the back of the car. There was a Kwix brake pipe straightener in the tote and it has a green rubber insert. It all swelled up, after a week or so it shrunk back to normal size

Looks like an acetone based brake cleaner, will dissolve ABS often used in cheaper tools, won’t affect nylon like used in most tools nowadays

I saw something similar happen at Rover, sprayed it all over some some insulated busbar banks that powered the moving carriers, first carrier that went along and the brushgear shattered all the insulation, took hours to replace

I use brake cleaner for all sort of things but I've always used the same brand because I have a local motor factor who does it at a good price when you buy in 4x5L boxes. Work out about £30.

I'll have check the ingredient because I've be gutted it suddenly started eating stuff
