breathe pipe missing

I have a compressor which I suspect is chinese, I've had it 12 months or so, I dont use it that often but when i do it splashes oil out of the filling hole, checking the poorly translated slip of paper it calls a manual apparently there is supposed to be a breathe pipe stuck in the hole, I dont have it and it didnt come with it, I know I wont be able to find another one so I wondered if any of you could tell me how it works, so I might be able to jury rig something similar, the floor underneath the compressor is getting pretty slippy.

What's in the filler hole at the moment? My Clarke has a screw-in plug with a felt filter to stop the oil splashing out.

I'd just be inclined to get some plastic tube and extend the filler high enough so that oil can't escape, perhaps put a piece of rag in the hole.

hole is empty, it had a plastic bung in when it first arrived, but the pressure soon popped that out, plastic tube you say.... hmm sounds easy =)

SORRY! meant in the end of the tube - don't stick it in the hole in case it finds its way inside

its a beltdriven, normal type of compressor, standard ebay rubbish :P

Clockwise or Anticlockwise.

There should be an arrow on the pump pulley or the finger guard showing direction of rotation.

If there isn't then the pump pulley spokes may be in the form of fan blades, make sure that these are blowing air onto the pump.

Most little compressors are splash lubricated and if it is running in the wrong direction it could chuck all its oil out of the crankcase, it could have been wired incorrectly from day one !!

Actually if that's admitting air into the crankcase only you could make it worse by allowing the crankcase to pressurise and eventually pop an oilseal.

You need to allow air in and out to compensate for the piston going up and down (single cylinder) and let air out to compensate for blow-by past the piston rings.

Also as it warms up the expanding air needs to escape and an easy way provided to allow air back in again as it all cools down.

the AAV lets air out under pressure, the crank case is pressurised (mildly) it will let air out, it should in theory let air back in also given that there is no liquid pressure to keep the valve shut.
