Broken Record No.1 Vice

Morning Guys

I am looking for some advice please

I bought this Record No. 1 Vice of off an auction site but when it arrived it doesn't seem to want to play ball.

When I turn the handle the slide wont move unless the Dynamic Jaw it is pulled by hand, no problem when closing the vice.

I have attached pics to show the parts

Am I correct in thinking the part on the 2nd pic is damaged

Is the thread / nut slipping when you try to open the vice without pulling on the jaw is it jamming up tight? Whatever the case I would think that it is almost certainly a worn out thread on either the dovetail nut or the threaded bar or possibly both - the external shape of that dovetail nut seems ok* from the picture but internally could be a different matter?. It maybe well worth you cleaning off all the sliding contact surfaces of paint and rust and putting a light smear of oil them just in-case there's just a bit too much friction but when I had mine apart the other day it looked to me like the thread should be able to be loaded both ways with equal force - why the thread should wear more on the tailing edge of the thread as opposed to the leading edge though (if this is the case is a bit of an odd one unless that vice has had a hard life being used as a spreader in some way?

* it's hard to tell from the pic but is the threaded hole running parallel to the foot of the dovetail? almost looks like the hole is pitched downhill a little in the photo - but it could equally be a perspective and/or lens distortion creating the effect. - if the nut is slightly misshapen then it might explain why the thread is not performing as it should now it has a little wear in it - might well of been ok when new.

When you attempt to open the vice does the thread wind out of the moving jaw?
