morning all im a mig welder stuck in a sheet metal shop ive done a lot of heavier prior to this and have kept my hand in stick welding.
I want to go in for some coding in stick...getting a company to pay for this is out of the question so please..im not interested in wether you think I should not be paying for my own codes..its what im doing.
I mentioned the en 287/ and iso9606 6g to a pipe fitter I used to work for( I know the en 287 is to be fazed out) he said if I can get my asme9 he could put a lot of work my way.but my thinking is that would limit me and that the 287/9606 would not only cover me for pipe work but covers structural??
I have read it may be possible to pay a little extra and get dual coding.
Im in Leicester and the nearest place I know of for this coding is a test centre in Coventry.
ive read lots of info on tests ..test prices various codes etc but having never done one of these coding tests my my main questions are regarding the test perimeters.
so say for 6G is the pipe diameter and wall thickness to be determined by me or is there a standard in these tests
if its by me and I get a pass am I limited to working to that size and gauge pipe or material thickness?
with boiler pipe and structural steel in mind thanks.
theres very little info on the Coventry web page regarding the test itself just pricing coding etc.
