Bubbles? air inclusions?

Hey fella's, been doing a few plug welds and a few tack's strips, on the rover's floor to day. Dispite having to dodge in and out to aviod the rain, I was thinking this isn't too bad most are sticking ok and look ok.

But driving home tonight I kept thinking about the how some of weld beads were like areo when ground down to finnish off, full of air bubbles?

The weld's done yesterday were quite solid, when ground down flush, I haven,t changed any settings from last go, (murex 160 mig/argosheild light)

The question is i guess is, what cause's them? IMHO i think i didn't sheild the welding area from the wind enough......

yeah the winds blowin your gas away what i do if i have to weld outside is turn the gas up slightly or could be due to welding rusty metal then clean metal.

If gas was an issue, you would view porosity each time you lift your bucket. Reads to me like inclusions due to corrosion when welding good to bad material, weld solidifies before various gases escape to surface. I'm probably wrong, some one with more knowledge of banger welding will no doubt have more knowledge

Have this pic to show wife what i was doing today, but didn't take a close up of the bubbly welds. Will do tomorrow....

Hi,

as stated above, not enough gas, or metal not clean.

Did you clean both sides, old underseal will cause problems if it gets caught up in the weld pool. And rust will vaporise giving you bubbles.
