Building M/Bike trailer

Hi guys, wonder if you can help
I'm using 50mmx2mm box section to build a motorbike trailer. I've butted the sections up to each other at 90 degrees to each other, and welded them. But I'm not so sure this is the best method after looking at it.
Would I get more strength by cutting the ends at 45 degrees, and welding them?

Yes far better mitring them. BTW check current laws on building trailers. They now need test cert.

Hi, there was a similar thread a while ago - I found it cheaper to buy a ready made kit (complete with legal stampings), other folk thought it best to buy a used one.

Your metal sounds a bit hefty for a bike towed trailer. My niece tows with her Bonneville one for the dog to sit in and the weight limits and size are limited so best to make the trailer as light as possible. For what you are allowed to carry either method would be strong enough but mitring gives a bigger weld area.

Oh sorry, crossed wires there Mitring seals ends so better preservation.

Thanks for the tip mate. I was getting concerned about the weight, but I was also concerned about impact weight...how much stress does a 200kg bike put on a trailer when it hits a bump.

With the relevant Indespension units you should be well covered with what you are using. I've seen bike trailers made of Unistrut channel that have been used for years with no problems.

i built one a long time ago.
to go collect a bike in blackpool.

i used 50x50x3 and 40x40x3 box

comes completely apart and can be carried in back of car.
