we all know what a bulldozer is and what it does.
Where did the term come from?
Bull? that makes sense but Doze? all I have ever seen as a definition is a light sleep.
But Bulldozer is a perfect name for the beast.
This has puzzled me for years.
Any offers?

Hmm.. I just Googled this (which of course you could easily have done! ) and a lot of suggestions are none too savoury

Apparently a ‘bulldoser‘ was a 19th century American ‘heavy’ used to intimidate people, usually with a gun to dispense a dose (of violence) fit for a bull.

The machine looks to be named after its ability to bully the ground flat, or something.

’Etymology’ is the search term to use when finding the origin of words.
