BURISCH or Clarke?

Hi,

Im after a new compressor, been waiting for the nxt VAT free offer from MM but thinking it could be more towards xmas before they email anything out, I need one sooner rather than later really.

I was looking at a 150L / 100L industrial Clarke SE16C150 / SE16C100, but im tempted by a BURISCH BT390T its only a 90L but has a 3hp motor 14cfm belt drive twin cylinder, oh and a lot cheaper.. Other than the storage capacity is there any major difference?

Its only for home use so not going to be run day in day out.

Im mainly going to be using it for paint spraying, not media blasting or DA use..

Really liked the idea of buying a Clarke compressor, but for the use its going to get the Burisch is probably more worth while to me, providing its reliable!

Can't comment on which ones better but at 97dB that burisch one seems pretty noisy?

How loud are the Clarke compressors? I can't see it in the spec on MM website..

Cheers, exactly what I was after unlike MM answer, they just emailed me back with this:

Thank You for your email
These machines produce noise levels in excess of 70dB(A). Persons working in the
vicinity of the machine must be provided with suitable ear protection.

That narrows it down :-)

Cool. Sounds like "my bad". Never really thought they were that noisy, but then I never understood noise ratings anyway.

Choice between the two might depend on what sort of use you will put the compressor to, the Burisch doesn't mention being continuously rated whereas the Clarke does. I have an SE16C150 which is around 14 years old now and will run constantly without problems while shotblasting. I borrowed a Clarke compressor almost identical to the Burisch unit to couple up for extra capacity and it started overheating. I will check the rating plates and pulley diameters on both compressors but I think the smaller Clarke unit runs faster as it is definitely noisier.

My Clarke is an SE16C150 too, and it's been great. I was going to buy the smaller portable version to help it along when blasting, but opted for the SIP instead as it was £100 cheaper and advertised as working from a 13A plug.

I wish I'd spent the extra £100. The SIP pump & motor are very similar to the Burisch.

I have one, got it the beginning of the summer, doesn't seem excessively noisy like the direct drive v twin I had before. I run a burisch air Palm sander and other air tools off it with no problems. It was delivered quick and although it's not used every day it fits the bill fine for me.

Im only going to be spraying my car so I might take the plunge and get the Burisch, I think if MM sent a VAT free email offer tomorrow then Id get the SE16C100 or 150.

Anythings better than the Silent compressor I built a few years back from air con compressors! Although Ive still got it and put safety switches on it, its a lot safer I just don't trust it for painting with, still get the odd whiff of air con gas when in use! Really quiet though!

I have the clarke se16c100 and it has been superb so far, not to noisy but they can always be quieter, I fitted an improved intake filter made by solberg and it makes it slightly quieter but not by much, it is an improved design though and has larger filter area so probably a good upgrade.

I was looking at the Dakota, missed out the other month when it was on offer, think the 150L was £299 and the 90L £219..

Pretty sure they all use the same compressor units, all seam to look identical.

Is the compressor unit cast iron? or just the cylinder liner?

not entirely sure i would assume its just the liner thats cast but may be wrong...

The whole cylinders are cast iron on the burisch not just liners the heads are aluminium, I think the pump unit is used on quite a few different makes of compressor

That Wolf (Post #13) looks Identical to the Burisch.

When comparing build-up time. Make sure the tanks are the same size, my "50 Litre" SIP is nearer 40 litres. I connected the tanks on my SIP & Clarke together and the 10 year-old Clarke built up more quickly than the brand new SIP, both 3hp.

Anybody know what the build up time of the Clarke SE16C100 is? And the same for the Wolf / Burisch, ok there only 90L so should be slightly quicker?

Thought Id made my decision last night, but still unsure

I have never timed the build up time on mine, but I can say that when I am spraying with airfed mask it runs very hard and has never overheated, also when using da sander it can run constant and again it performs very well. Mine is in separate garage to where I work so noise is not really an issue I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I needed one. We have a clarke at work and we use it for pressure testing on very large tanks so also can run constant and it holds up well, a sip compressor we had couldn't manage constant running and overheated and spilled oil into the receiver, this was very hard running though
