I’ve three of these webasto water heaters that are kaput, the cast aluminium water housing have rotted out.
These are the burners from inside the unit, they should have a heater plug in but I’ve taken that out.
Anyway any thoughts or ideas what these burners could be used for before I bin them??
Obvious choice to me would be some sort of hearth/furnace.
Oil fired is generally a lot better than propane for maximising heat output, but people are put off because building your own liquid fuel burner seems more complicated.
I am not sure what the rated heat output of your scrap webasto's was, but the smallest size on their website looks like 4kW rated output at about 60% efficiency...
So with three of the burners, you could build a furnace with upto 20kW heat input, which would be very suitable for fairly significant sized castings, even in iron and other metals requiring high pouring temperatures.
(Admittedly a producing a 1KG iron casting would consume around £15-£20 in diesel, so it wouldn't be the most economical hobby)
If they're going to go in the bin otherwise I might be willing to pay a notional amount to take them off your hands to try my own madcap idea.
