Hi, I have got a butters amt 175 at the moment which I have had for about 3 years now but haven't used much due to not having a workshop built yet. The first time I used it I loved it, such a step up from my old sip migmate. The second time I came to use it I had a problem with the wire feed playing up. I returned it to butters, as I am only about 20 miles away from them and they repaired it free of charge even though it was over 12 months old.
I used it a couple of more times with no problem but the last time I used it I had the wire feed problem back again. I returned it to butters again and they exchanged the wire feed pc board, (which was the first fault) and that cost me £115. They had a pile of these on the bench when I went to pick my welder up so I thought it must be a bit of a fault with them.
I haven't used it again since but I am about to start a lot of work on a couple of campers and beetles that I have and I am wondering how long it is going to last. The welder has done nothing in terms of working time. I had one as we had an old one at a garage I used to work at and it just kept on going even though most of the switches had been knocked off, that was a white one with orange stripes.
I have been offered a Hobart betamig 170 2nd hand and I am wondering if to buy it or not for if my other plays up as I am not going to pay £115 everytime I do a couple of hours welding.
My other thought is just to make do with the butters til I can afford a portamig.
Opinions and thoughts greatfully received.
Thanks very much.
