Buying ordinary welding mask?

I am having difficulty buying an ordinary arc welding helmet
I tried welding supplier and nothing doing,
They haven’t supplied a basic non automatic helmet for a long time
Must be still available?
Yesterday I was fitting in feeding barriers using old but good hand held mask
I will be continuing later on today

yeah you can get fixed shade hand held masks on ebay, but I have to ask why would you want one when you can gat an auto darkening mask for £20 and you then have 2 hands to do your welding with.

I have used auto mask and I was not happy with it
It did not go dark quickly enough and I got arc

on my mask you can adjust sensitivity and tint level, it's only a clarke one too, was about £45 iirc

Also I'm sure I've read on here that even if it doesn't auto darken you're still protected from UV if you have the mask on. Although someone please correct me if I've got that wrong..

20 yrs ago the cheapo Chinese ones were like that. But the big brands always been good. My 3M has been very good for a hobby user. Still have a fixed shade one for confined areas or upside down under a car stuff.

TBF, I have had the same experience, although that was very, very early days of the auro darkening helmet, maybe 35 years ago?

They are sooo much better now and my recently acquired true colour mask has been a revelation.

That said, I still have my old hand held, just can't bring myself to get shot of it!

Even my Lidl true colour when set on low sensitivity is instantaneous there must have been something wrong with yours to get arc eye, that's precisely what they're not supposed to do.

I would agree with above, try a modern auto darkening helmet.
They have come a very long way. I couldn't go back to a fixed now.

You can get auto darkening masks that also have a fixed shade mode or dark mode, you just select the shade from 9 to 13, and it's permanent dark regardless of whether you're welding.
