Buying reed valve material

Howdy. i have an old 1.5hp sealey (oil free) compressor in need of a new reed valve. It measures 12x30mm x 0.18mm. Cant get exact parts, so looking at cutting something else down to size. The generic stuff i'm seeing on Ebay is either a twice as thick or not wide enough.

Anyone got a pointer to a website, or a reed valve from something else that could be cut down to suit?

Feeler Gauge strip works, as WeldingNovice says, where the width is sufficient (usually 1/2" for Imperial. I'm not sure whether it's the same for metric thicknesses). Steel shim stock works ok where greater widths are required.

When I last did one, maybe 20 years ago, I used feeler strip clamped tightly between 2 bits of MDF and filed the edges to size: the first attempt with tin snips wasn't flat enough, even after trying to hammer it flat.

Yep, that works. Just have to sandwich it between something if you need a hole or two in it.

I was given new Ingersol Rand stainless reed valves.
He called them 'finger valves'.

Have you tried looking at 2 stroke engine Reed valves to see if you can get something larger to cut down?

Another vote for 2stroke reed valves, search eBay for “reed valve petals”, there are lots of options.

Some top suggestions and guidance, many thanks. Seems theres spring steel sheets available in 0.2mm thickness on ebay. Enough to screw up 99 attempts and get one good one for around £8.
