Cable size?

Elect has drawn me up a diagram so I can wire my lathe with a reverse switch, he told me to get a piece of 6 core cable on Monday for between the switch and motor. Can someone tell me what size of cable I would need to ask for please? If I remember right it's sold by 2.5, 3.5 etc.

1,1/2 hp motor 1.1kw 1420rpm.

The motor only draws 5 amps so you can use 0.75 mm2 6 core flex.

use 1,0mm its easier to work than ,75mm

Thanks BS, got a piece of cable today and wired the way the elect told me to, it didn't work, he says sorry he dosn't know then.

Can anyone help me to wire a 60a chinese drum reversing switch please?

Single or 3 phase motor?

And can you stick a continuity meter on the switch terminals to find out which terminal connects to which in both positions, unless it came with a diagram?

Single phase and the 2 terminals nearest the switch lever connect in both positions, and don't in the middle position. No diagram.

From the blurb I think that some of the others connect together but not with their opposite number, if you can meter all the connections I can do you a pic.

Yes you are right some of the others connect together but not with their opposite number. I have sat with it this afternoon and a meter and think I have found a way for it to work but if it dosn't, I'll attempt to draw a sketch of all connections tomorrow. Thanks very much.

Managed to beat 2 local elects with this. First elect said he needed a diagram from the seller, I wrote them in China and got the reply, "You have a very nice day too." So I asked a second elect, he drew me up a sketch that didn't work, when I switched on it was like the motor was trying to turn in both directions, went back to him and he said there was no more he could do. Dunno why but I don't feel very popular with them local elects. After an hour or so yesterday I figured out I could do it using connections as in the second sketch. It works perfectly, now can run the motor either way on the lathe. Just for Wendelspanswick's curiosity I am attaching crude drawings of mine, first one of the switch connections, second of how I connected it. Hope you can make sense of my crude sketches.
