caged nut

Any body any idea what these are called. They are a form of caged nut but have the side tabs on them. They are for a side panel off a compressor cabinet. And where I might be able to buy some from.

Always known them as cage nuts. Used a lot in rack mounting stuff in flightcases.

Are they M6?
How thick is the panel?
How many do you want?

Local Citroen or Peugeot main dealers may have something similar. There were all sorts of that kind of thing in the fixings rack in the dealers I used to work in.

The panels are just 1mm thick, if that. They sit in the folded three sided edge channel.

It would be a simple job to modify a cage nut to be the same as you require, just trim the wings with side cutters and bend 90 degrees to the body.

The correct ones are a fiddle to get in or out and so I don't think that would work. But of course if all else fails I might have to resort to trying something!

clipsandfasteners.com " J " nuts depending on how far the hole is in from the edge of the material might be a good substitute .

I'd also see if the self crimping flared nuts could be used instead. perhaps making the square hole to the correct round hole and then setting the nut with a high tensile bolt and flat washer
The 5 mm screw metal bodied aluminium wall plugs that have collapsing walls may also be useful if your not worried about a protrusion on the inside
King of all though are the aircraft grade DZUS range of nuts & panel locking bolts .

Land Rover bulkhead captive nuts now come in several different designs & sizes ( eBay ) there are some good pictures of them there.

Finally you could make your own nut oblong plates a few mm over size and then rivet them at the corners in place with soft alloy counter sunk rivets or small flat head pop rivets

brianblock that website is in America and the only other one that comes up with the correct nuts is in Italy!! At least you came up with the correct name for them so thank you for that.
