Cam shaft welding

I have a pitted camshaft on one of the bikes, and the top hardened layer of one of the lobes has gone. Phil Joy used to repair and modify cams, but he must have retired years ago. He used to build up cam lobes with a carbon rich flame, so he could harden it afterwards, before grinding. Can this be done with arc rods?, and does anyone on here know of any one who regrinds cams?

I tried them, but got "sorry we dont weld cast camshafts", which is strange, as they are heat treated to harden the lobes.

Ah, that would explain it. They got a hard time from one of the classic honda boys a while ago.

They persuaded me repairing some worn cam followers was going to be more expensive than a pair of super duper CNC made followers with tungsten slipper bit's
The parts needed considerable machining to get them to fit and make them function. The fact they weighed almost twice what the original
forged ones weighed made me opt for "I want my money back".
