Campfire Grill

Went camping with the folks at a State Park in an RV site. Park had a grill on the fire ring. Old, rusted and you could not move the grill out of the way. Wanted something better and useful elsewhere.

So, made this up:

2' wide made from 1.5" x 1/8" angle iron. Grate will slide up/down and can come off.

Held together with only 2 bolts.

Breaks down to 4 parts that can be stored flat.

Some weld bling :

Arc welded with 7014 2.4mm rods.

Adjustment mechanism:

Can be adjusted in 1/4" increments.

Neat job Scott - how did you make those notches for the adjustment - I could see how you could get that effect by cutting into a line of holes but it doesn't look like that is how you did it? Graham.

Actually, I chucked the angle iron up in the lathe and set it to 4tpi. After 2 passes cutting this "thread" I realized it would take forever as I had to run it slow. Also, was beating my lathe to death with an interrupted cut.

So, removed it. Now I had the angle iron that was marked every 1/4" (had only cut a few thousandths so far.) Clamped it with the other one in a vice and hit each mark with an angle grinder. Got a rhythm going, count to 3 on each mark with grinder.

Only took a few minutes and had both done at once. I had thought about drilling holes and then cutting.

...the result looks very neat and uniform Scott, I'd be chuffed to bits if I had done that with a grinder. Graham.
