can da sander be used as compounding machine

as the title says really , i sprayed my car and it turned out unreal now begins the wet sanding and compounding stage and i was wondering if my air da sander will do as polisher if i put a different head on it as i dont have an electric polishing machine and would rather not buy one if i dont need it as money is tight

Your air DA sander might be too fast for the job - do you know the operating rpm?

I use a Meguires DA polisher as a sander. The speed is controlled by a dia but I fond the sanding discs stop cutting after hardly any time.

The air DA will run far too fast for polishing.Electric ones have variable speeds and could probably do it.

the purpose made polishers are geared to provide power at low speeds so i think the electric DA's will lack power

And if they run too quick in fresh paint they will burn it and leave marks and little swirls

Turn the pressure down at the air regulator so the Da will run at a slower speed?

It does reduce the speed but you get naff all torque with doing that.

Theres a reason that both are made differently.

yup bought a kestrel das-6 and its totally different to my da air sander and polishes and compounds very well , thanks for the info guys

good to see someone actually buy the right tool for the job and not just bodging as you will have found there is a big difference
