Can someone tell me how to use the angular gauge on the torque wrench

I bought a teng torque wrench mainly for the angular gauge but I don't have a clue how to use it so I've contacted teng to find out how to use it but they have told me different to the instructions. So would anyone know how to use it from the instructions as the method teng told don't work.

Set the torque wrench to the desired Nm, in this case 40Nm, tighten the bolt. The little angular arrow on the top of the wrench will move when he does this. Then set the torque wrench to higher than 40Nm, doesn't matter what once higher than 40Nm Then by hand reset the angular arrow to the desired angle/degree and tighten bolt again until click is heard.

The pictures give the best description , there is no click in the angle mode.Hold the wrench at 12/6 o'clock, rotate anti clockwise until the desired angle lines up on the scale, rotate the wench (and fastener) clockwise back to 12/6 o'clock position.

The usual method is to set the wrench to desired torque and tighten till it clicks. Then if the workshop manual specifies this procedure tighten the bolt a further .... ? degrees using the built in angle gauge as a reference. The angle gauge is normally a separate tool but yours is a two in one.

Looks like it's done in 2 stages,
1 - set to 40nM and tighten until click
2 - set above 40nM and follow pics/711jrp description to get angle setting.

So I looks like your just guessing the angle.

'Use is very simple' - it really is!

Tighten to the specified torque ('til it clicks).

Then adjust the wrench to a higher torque figure, it doesn't really matter what. Make sure the pointer is set to 0 (degrees) and turn until you have reached the desired angle.
You can then turn the torque wrench backwards, NOT undoing the bolt but setting the indicator back to zero for your next one.

Nope not guessing. you move the arrow to the amount of degrees that you need, now you put the torque wrench on the nut or bolt and line the handle up to some other bolt or nut or mark on the body or engine. This is a reference so you know where to return to when you do the tightening bit. Now you rotate the torque wrench anti clockwise until it's at the degree arrow you set, doing this does not move the nut or bolt. now you return it to the reference point you picked and it is now that it tightens further. you know it's going to tighten exactly the amount of degrees you set as that was the amount you backed it off to the mark.

The important thing is to start at a known reference point with the pointer at "0" this can be either a know orientation of the tool straight up and down, numbers on a clock face, the end of the tool lining up with a fixed point whatever you feel happy with but it is important you can come back to this orientation.

Then use the degree scale to move the tool anticlockwise until it reads the desired degree, in this operation the pointer is fixed but the scale moves around it by the desired angle.

Finally return the tool to the first orientation using the known reference point from the first step.

The scale is there not to tell you how far to tighten the bolt but rather how far to turn the tool backwards from a given point

I can't think of an easier way of explain it, and just as a side note I guess the angle most of the time as it isn't that critical on STY bolts
