Or any other repair to fix the flange.

As it shown the flange has snapped off and is cast but dont think Aluminum. It is an Vovlo Penta 270 outdrive tilt mechanism.
ill check in a mo but well PPPPPed off at te minute.

ill go and check for a better pic, or give it wire wheel to see.

Should be able to take it.
You don't need to line up the holes. Just get it clean and OA should leave you with a tidy fix.

In the past I just used OA and a brazing rod.

Weldinf can distort the flange.

Thats before I dressed and cleaned it up.

Good point. Braze is much easier to machine flat too especially since machining that piece is going to be tricky!.

Do a thorough job of cleaning the area around the intended repair and personally I'd be inclined to 'vee' back both surfaces to give a greater surface for the braze. Get the pipe nestled amongst a few fire bricks to contain the heat and fire up the OA.

did you remove that from the shield ? if so how the hell did you get it off. neither of these will come out. soaked in WD40, goth them turning but only coming out a few mm.

oh the reason to remove was to rebuild them.

Its steel, grinding gives of sparks


i am looking at a new gas torch, firstly to help remove the top grey collar, but if i can get a good enough torch to braze it aswell, so mite aswell spend the bit more and get one if they will do it. i am lookinmg at these though.

Any thoughts if there up to the job ? .

Why do people on here think cast steel is common, it is rocking horse poo, Why, because it is b awful stuff to cast. Far more likely to be cast iron. If it needs strength, malleable cast iron or SG.

Totally different stuff though, cast steel can be welded easily cast iron can't, even brazing is a bit of a pain as it is liable to crack somewhere else from heat distortion. I think that is why TIG brazing seems to be the modern way of brazing cast.

@W.olly brazing cast iron isn't as easy as it looks.

TIG brazing is crap for cast iron in my opinion. Yes it can work but is never as strong as gas brazing.
