can this be welded together? TURBO housing edge (pics) - quickly

hi everyone

just need to know if I could try to weld this together .- its from center turbo housing - thatt edge piece from turbine side has cracked off - ...

my question is - can I try to weld it by arc (got some 6013 electrodes) - I would than grind it off and have a smooth edge on top... (would weld it here on the top:

do you think it would crack again? the weld wouldnt withstand the extreme temps ???

No chance stick welding that it looks cast to me and is thin for stick welding

cast iron thats right... so too thin -- it would probably melted down leavin no shape to grind off i presume??

It would most likely crack further fro the heat of the weld. The big problem will be the base material melting back from the power of the weld.

Could be cast iron, could be a cast steel, several flavours of each are used depending on whether the turbo is for an oil burner or petrol, a shopping trolley or something performance orientated.

Zero chance of sticking the broken bit back on, with the right consumables the edge could be built up and remachined but i doubt it'd be ecomical as we're talking about the core rather than a broken lug on the exhaust housing etc

You also risk damaging the seals,those things spin @ v.high revs.

Leave it off. The turbo should work fine without it.

I am rebuilding it... its empty at the moment... no shaft no seals no bearings... though, I found another housing for 30 quid.. will use that one... thank you for replies

thats the best route.

tho turbo houseings are about the easyest cast of the lot to weld, usally loads of nickel in it
