picked up a few days ago a huskavana strimmer fuel in the plug hole and pulled started and died so looked at the fuel lines shot so replaced put back together and filled the tank fuel every where
Looked on the side of the fuel tank and there is a split 2mm wide but you could not see it so hence the fiberglass I have tried it possibly as a temp measure but will it last ?
In my experience of trying to repair a crack in a motorcross bike mudguard I would say no. Eventually it will delaminate as the petrol seeps through the cracks.
I have in the past successfully repaired a strimmer tank with a hot air plastic welder like the liester types.
Obviously though you need a plastic welder.
I have plastic welding facilities here if you want a permanent repair. The problem isn't just adhesion and solvent attack, the tank will flex in a way that the fibreglass won't.
Fibreglass with polyester resin will crack and fall off, just as if it were a mould. To do a proper repair, plastic weld it, or at a push use fibreglass with epoxy resin, which stands more chance.
in reply to the above post This is the fiberglass cheapy from tool station
I'm not.to worried if it's does not last for ever it's just to test the strimmer as there was a lot of problems with it that I did not notice apon buying it I know it was sold as spares but did ask if it was all there the reply was yes once I got it home the bulb was missing as was the holder for the same I have made some thing up for the moment just want to get it running before spending a few quid on it don't want to spend more than 15 on parts or it will be striped and sold to make my out lay back that was a 10er not much to pull back but gives me a something to do on a night for a couple of nights
Sorry for the late reply by the way did not get any alerts for this any one has replayed
Tha is for the offer of the plastic welding but I had a look o the bay of thieves and a tank should only cost a 10er or less I'm in no rush so can wait for a cheapy to turn up on the bay as would be sold untill next year now as most people don't want to spend money on grass as it to late in the season
