hey guys, painted my wheels gloss black yesterday and they have not got the shine that i was after, i also painted the plastic centre caps and they turned out very shiny and with almost no orange peel.
i stripped the wheels to the metal, then etch primed them and left them 48 hours, i then rubbed them down and used 2k filler primer over the top, then i shot a few coats of u-pol high solid gloss black and then did a coat of the u-pol 2k mixed 50/50 with 2k clear coat to give it extra shine and protection.
the wheels have a very dull and peely look to them were as the centre caps are near perfect, i was using a 2.0 primer gun as my 1.4 is not working.
both wheells and centre caps were done at the same time with same batch of paint. my question is can i lay another coat on or am i going to have to rub them down again, they have been drying for 24 hours in my shed. could the primers be affecting the top coat appearance? ive sprayed loads of wheels with 2k but never mixed the top coat 50/50 but i read online and was told by a friend that it works well.
the centre caps were rubbed down and then plastic primed, then rubbed down again and sprayed exact same way as wheels.
