Capacity Of Sandblasting Pot

Hi,
What is the grit capacity of a 20 gallon sandblaster like this one on Ebay UK item number 281390961318
Do I fill it right up, or only 2/3, 1/2 full whatever?

I Googled how many Kg of grit can a 20 gallon sandblaster hold. I found an old MIG Welding

But the post doesn't clarify my question. Have you any idea how many Kg of 80 -120 grit
would it take to fill a 20 gallon sandblaster right up?

Depends on the type of grit, some types are more dense than others.

I reckon 40 to 50 kilos of glass grit to fill a 20 gall pot. The grit size doesn't make much difference.

think mine takes 2 1/2 bags from empty to fill to the top. so 50KG sounds right

Also depending on the type of grit, the pot won't empty completely, so you're looking at about 10 Kg less for a refill.

I'm going to use Aluminium Oxide 80-120 any idea what quantity I need of that to fill a 20 gallon pot right up?

No, you might get the density of the material from the suppliers, or buy a couple of 25Kg bags and see how you go.

I bought 2 x 7.5Kg tubs 80 - 120 AO this afternoon from Machine Mart, Sunday will order 5 more.

Have a look on Ebay - you'll be paying through the nose buying small quantities like that.

I think I have looked on Ebay before and their prices for a 25 Kg bag are certainly cheaper but I can't see any 80-120. The books and videos I have commonly refer to 80-120 grit for glass etching and carving. The Machine Mart tubs have 80-120 on them, so does that mean the grit size is a mix from 80 up to 120? On Ebay I see AO available in a mesh size of 80 but not an 80-120 mesh. This mesh size I find a bit confusing could you explain please?
Machine Mart does have bigger 20 Kg tubs but works out more than the 7.5 Kg ones.
They have a large tub designated as 60-80 and another as 60?

80-120 is a range of sizes.

Mesh size refers to the number of holes per linear inch in the mesh used to sieve out the grit during manufacture. 120 mesh is 120 holes per inch, so the higher the number the finer the grit.

The actual size of the hole in the sieve will be slightly smaller than 1/120 th of an inch due to the thickness of the wire.
