Hi there everyone...
I just thought I'd introduce myself prior to creating my first [well, second] post!
I'm a CGi (3D) Artist by trade and specialise in Automotive visualisation. I produce images for Ford, Land Rover, Range Rover and most recently McLaren. You can see some of my images here: http://gallen.cgsociety.org/gallery/
I'm a car nut based in Essex.
I enjoy buying cars (classic or damaged) and project managing their restorations. Passed projects include Capri MK2 2.0S in Signal Amber, genuine Henstead Motorsport Mitsibushi Starion 2.0EX WB and lots more.
However I've never got round to picking up a welder - Something that I now plan to become as good at as I can - hopefully with your help & advice!
My project will be a 2 owner 1978 Rover SD1 2600 Series 1.
- I've always wanted an SD1 and this car (which is "cosmetically challenged") is the perfect opportunity for me to pick up the welder and get stuck in! I'm collecting it tomorrow. Here's a picture from when I went to see it having just been pulled out of the garage where it's sat for years:
RE: My experience, I can paint ok (infact to a glass finish). However to be honest I haven't got the facilities at home and have become fed up of flatting paint only to find that it sinks, then flat it again, then sink etc etc. Mainly due to no heater and expensive cans (which are expensive due to coverage). Therefore I have decided to try out some metal work and prep the car properly prior to a professional paint job.
Here's the sort of Paintwork I have done in the passed (When I have time). This one was a bought with brake fluid / paint stripper damage (Renault Laguna) :-
Anyhow, the Rover SD1 was going to be scrapped and so I picked it up for beer money. Its extremely solid in all the right places, especially where you would usually find holes. This is mainly due to it having been waxoiled from new, then again in 1986 and pretty much garaged since.
Anyhow; "Hello"!!!!
I look forward to contributing to the forums.
Best regards
Gallen
