Car primer types

I have cleaned all the old paint off my beetle inner wings as i wanted to see how it.looked, I want to prime it with something that will be water resistant, I see 2 pack and epoxy being mentioned on sites but I am unsure.

Prime it and then paint it in a cheap colour.

When you say "water resistant" do you actually mean corrosion resistant? If so, I would recommend a primer containing zinc phosphate corrosion inhibitors. I haven't used any else for very many years, though I occasionally change brands. My current favourite is https://www.palatinepaints.co.uk/product/carboxide-metal-primer/ and you could overcoat that with their 2 hour gloss. I have two cars, both are well over 20 years old and neither has ever had a mention of corrosion during MoT's

Epoxy is 2k. It's not an isocyanate, but it's still two part (2 pacK)

Basically, if you care about the job, then epoxy is the answer.

need a 2 part epoxy ..so one that mixes with hardener and no its not isocyanate

Epoxy primer can be rolled on. Use extra thinners.

How did you clean it off? If you used a wire brush in a grinder or drill you will need to key the surface up properly or the adhesion will be poor as it's a polished surface.

I can recommend the tintable upon raptor bed liner over a decent epoxy primer.

I still paint over the tinted stuff. The tinted finish is a bit matt and isn't as smooth/easy to wash off dirt

I usually spray dintrol UC over it. That has the same downside that the dirt sticks bit.

For the underside I'd use an epoxy mastic, something like Jotamastic 90A.
Epoxy mastics are thicker so preform better than a normal epoxy primer.

The A in the 90A means there is added aluminium which provides some galvanic protection as well.

Yes I would concur unless you already have an automotive grade epoxy primer, in which case just make it a bit thicker on the chassis etc.
