Car ramps mk2

I have used the car ramps in the link below for just over a year and have since changed / improved the design.

The ability to lift the car ramps hasn’t really been used that much, instead I made the end platforms a fixed height which makes them a lot stronger and they are 100mm longer so there 600mm long x 300mm wide 270mm high which helps if you need to jack up the back of the car as well, as the front wheels can move, the ramps are still 950mm long. Also all the corners of the cuts are now radiused, and an extension ladder can also be bolted to the ramps (not yet made), and there hot dip galvanised hopefully won’t start rusting to quickly.


















The ramps are made from 3mm plate with 20 x 20 x 3mm angle, the ladder extension part has another 3mm doubler welded to the outside.
I don’t claim to be a professional welder, just a DIYer but how they can still sell the blue car ramps pictured I don’t know, can’t say I have used them for at least 8 years.

i have the same ones...mine was reluctant to go up them for the same reason...its been on and off them so many times now that there are grooves worn in the bumper lol

i gave up after the first attempt, screwed some thick fence boards together, at different lengths, works a treat to drop the oil, when needed.

We had the same problem with my daughter's Corsa. I put a piece of 4x2 lengthways in front of each ramp to give it a start and it cured it of catching.

but you cant get all the oil out with them draining is still the best way

When I bought mine first, I tested it by suction until no more came out then removed the sump plug to see how much came out - less than an eggcup-full. Given that I do interim oil/filter changes between BMW's recommended mileage, I reckon I'm ahead of the game.

What is the lug halfway down the ramp for?

That's for bolting the extension ladder to if needed, in the top photo you can see at the top of the picture the doubler plate that was welded on the outside so that part is 6mm thick.

Its always the way , I have just brought a pair of the blue ramps not used them yet but think I may struggle getting my car up them as the front is quite low. What a great job you have done make up a few more and sell them on ?

could not justify the price, for one oil drop a year if ya quick, ya dont get any oil down ya arm plus i have a little 1.2 corsa c, where the filter is at the top.

^^ I used to use it on tractors and other machines when I was Greenkeeping, made life soooo much easier. Some had almost no ground clearance [ride-on greens mowers etc] had virtually no ground clearance and we were without lift or jacks

Well there not cheap especially making only one pair, I suspect having a few sets cut would make them cheaper but basically there not cheep at £400, although I would probably be happy to put 3.5 Ton on them. The other options were these at £420 but they can only lift 900kg http://www.cjautos.eu/product_p/cr01.htm

or these at £200 http://panaweb.co.uk/product_info.p...id/96/osCsid/0298c75f3c58bc922e14b32f30131fa9 but looking at the description the part the wheel sits on is only 300mm long as opposed 600mm on mine (which is just enough if you look at the 7th photo down from the top of this page) and there 50mm narrower.

I'm sure they will still be perfectly fine in 15 - 20 yrs time so the cost isn't that bad.

To be honest I would seriously consider something like this in the future http://www.automotechservices.co.uk/products/as-7530d-garage-scissor-lift/ which might seem excessive but I've had friends and family collect there car from a garage with worse bills.
