As title, I want to invest in changeable tip carbide tools for my small Viceroy lathe. I know this is a how long is a piece of string type question, but I have to start somewhere.
Just for general mild steel and alooominum of which there are many types. What do I need to know ? What tip spec will I need, and do I need different types for different materials, or are there general purpose types ?
Also, how do you work out what size holders you need, I have some old tools that are 1/2" square, some 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm. Seems to me that bigger is better as it will be more rigid, or is there more to it than that ?
