Carpet joiners.

The carpet to carpet joiners for thresholds that fit between the doors.
Does anyone know if they make wider ones. The carpet has shrunk and it won't stretch any more.

Just trying to find out if they exist.

I will be putting a cover strip on the top but it would be a more secure job if they do exist.

No mate that's the one for over the top.
It's the double sided spiked ones I am wondering about.

I need one with the center part 15 to 20mm thick not just 2 mm.

Have you just had it cleaned?
If it has a woven backing the weave can expand when wet. If that’s the case wait until it has fully dried then it can be stretched back over the door bar gripper with a knee kicker.

No it's been down a few years.
We lost our dog last year and he used to wee on.pads where my computer desk sits.
It's approx 2metres square. I have just replaced it and finishing the 3 door ways, kicking in etc.
I am not that fussed as I can put some extra gripper down and kick to that. Covering it with an extra wide strip as posted above. That was how it was before I took it up.

I took off the beadings on the door frame and inserted five inch wide mahogany 18 mm thick boards right across the thresholds. The top edges of the boards were given a small chamfer . . It means the glued to the floor screed carpet gripper strips can run uninterrupted across the whole threshold and the carpet does not get over stretched or suffer when the teeth on an aluminium griper strip start getting flattened .


I'd now suggest after a trial of 17 years that the wood is now to be as wide as the walls are thick and use a multi tool to remove the bottom ends of the architraves & beadings so the wood is a proper continuation of the wall on both sides of the door . I used grip fill and plugged stainless steel screws to hold the cills in place under a hidden head plug of the same mahogany running in the same wood grain direction . They 'll also get the same three coats of mat slip resist sealing varnish on all sides & edges that the current ones got before they were fitted.

The above picture shows how after 15 yrs of being over stretched the carpet has started to give way in the doorway from the hall into our lounge .
Rather than wait for me to get back home to cut the architrave off at the bottom with my just purchased for the job multi tool cutter , the carpet fitters cut up loads of small bits of gripper strip , instant super glued them in place so they looked like a set of bull horn handle bars and stretched the carpet hard to fit in the space they'd made . Assuring me that the carpet would stay put .. it didn't .

This picture shows how dirty things get after 15 years & where the partial repainting of the door frame was done .. I must go to SpecSavers or at the very least my wife should . Dog & any cat hairs you see are FOC.

Notice how the strip of wood is not quite as wide as the wall & skirting boards , the architrave gets in the way of a continuous straight line . The door stop bead was cut to fit above the strip.


IIRC ...I was charged £ 100 plus vat for my seven mahogany threshold strips to be made for me in 2007 & a professional plug hole cutter set cost me £ 9
