Hi to all on this forum. Seems like a great place. Ihave been lurking for a while but thought I would say hello and perhaps ask a question or two.
I have been welding for a lot of years on a DIY/semi professional basis having worked in the power generation industry as a fitter/welder. I have been in the engineering side now for a number of years so dont very often get to pick tools up. But I have recently (re) started building custom bikes and am trying to get back to where I was welding wise. I have recently also purchased a TIG so am trying to learn this skill. This was not really an option when I started as everything was gas or stick!
With regard to Castolin 680s rods can anyone tell me are these supposed to be operated DCEP? In addition do people find that you generally get a bead wider than the nominal two and a half times rod diameter (so 6mm or so for 2.5 rods)? Try as i may these always seem to flow out more to produce a wider bead than say a normal 6013?
Heres a shot of a sidestand bracket/footpeg bracket I made out of 6mm stainless using 2.5mm Eutectic rods (didnt have any 3.2). This was before I got my TIG so done with the stick using the catolin rods.
